How To Get A Digital TIN ID

If you have had a Tax Identification Number (TIN) for quite some time now but still do not have a physical TIN ID, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has some good news for you.

This year, the BIR introduced a convenient Digital Tax Identification Number (TIN) ID accessible to all via the Online Registration and Update System (ORUS). The user-friendly website can be accessed effortlessly from a desktop, laptop, or mobile phone with an internet connection.

Here's how:

1. Log on to orus.bir.gov.ph and choose the activity you wish to perform:

  • New Registration
  • Secondary Registration
  • Update Information (Corrections or changes on registration details, cancellation of TIN, or closure of business or facility)
  • Verify TIN or search for BIR-registered businesses
  • Register a branch or facility
  • Other inquiries about Tax Identification Numbers
2. To proceed, click the Login button on the upper right corner of the page.

3. If you still do not have an account with ORUS, click the blue Register button at the bottom of the page. Otherwise, enter your registered email address and password to proceed to your ORUS account.

4. After you have set up your account, you will be asked to upload your latest 1x1 photo, with white background. Your face must not be hidden behind eyeglasses or sunglasses or too much makeup.

3. If you are accessing the page but forgot your TIN, you may request to retrieve it by providing the following information:
  • First, middle, and last names
  • Gender
  • Birthday
  • Complete Residential Address
  • Civil Status
  • Spouse's Name (if applicable)
  • Valid government-issued ID or Passport
  • Photo holding the government-issued ID
Your request will be reviewed by the BIR and they will send you an email with your TIN if your request is approved.

This digital platform proves particularly beneficial for recent graduates and individuals seeking their first job opportunities. A Tax Identification Number (TIN) stands out as a fundamental prerequisite for prospective hi res in the majority of government agencies and private establishments. It is wise to already have a TIN prior to securing employment, to avoid the inconvenience of having to take time off from a new job solely for the purpose of applying for a TIN later on.

What are the benefits of having a Digital TIN ID?

1. It acts as a documentation for the taxpayer's TIN and functions as an officially recognized identification document accepted across different government agencies, local government units, banks, employers, and other institutions. The validity of this document can be easily confirmed through the ORUS system by scanning the provided QR Code online.

2. In contrast to traditional TIN cards, the Digital TIN ID dispenses without the need for a signature. To ensure the legitimacy of the Digital TIN ID, a simple online verification process is available through the ORUS. This involves scanning the QR code displayed on the Digital TIN ID using the camera of a mobile device.

3. For individuals already possessing a TIN, the option to obtain a digital TIN ID is accessible through the ORUS. To initiate the process, users are required to enroll their accounts on the ORUS platform.

4. The Digital TIN ID serves as a permanent identification document. Both the physical TIN card and the Digital TIN ID retain their validity, and individuals holding a Digital TIN ID are not obligated to obtain a physical card.

5. The digital TIN ID is free of charge. In the same manner, the physical TIN ID is not for sale. You only need to pay for a replacement fee if you lost your original ID and would like to get a new one.

6. The TIN ID card does not expire and there is no need to renew it at any point.

Every employed Filipino (or business person) should possess a valid TIN. It serves as evidence of your taxpayer status and responsible citizenship. We trust this blog has guided you in acquiring your TIN or digital TIN ID.
